Damage to the Catskill Mountain Railway
Hurricanes and Flooding have taken its toll
Fallen Railroad Bridge - Boiceville NY
The railroad bridge over Esopus Creek was destroyed in 2011 by Hurricane Irene. This was an integral part of the Catskill Mountain Railroad's formerly active route between Kingston and Phoenicia NY. Back in 2018 the ruins were visible from a Google aerial.

A visit to the site in 2018
A few years back, before the rails were ripped out.
August 2018 - stark and empty of rails and trees :-(
Scenic Route Along the Ashokan Reservoir
The north side of the Ashokan Reservoir is a very scenic route. You tranverse through a lush tree canopy and off to the south are the glistening waters of the Ashokan Reservoir.

A few years back, the rails were a bit overgrown but still usable by the railway.

Removing the Rails

As of August 2018, all the ties and rails were gone.
