About the Hike
A relaxing family-friendly hike through the beautiful Pequonnock River Valley exploring ridges, valleys, nature and the historic Pequonnock River. The focus this year was on comparing different ecosystems: marshland, mixed forests, grassland, conifer forests, etc.
Highlights included:
The Park is chock full of varied mini ecosystems and interesting topography. Hiking northward on the main White Trail, we traveled through mixed forests and over the old earthen dam, then descended to explore the grassy fields and marshland of the old lakebed.
North of the lakebed, we trekked thru the enchanting conifer forest and headed up to the higher ground to walk along the ridge line traveling through rugged granite outcroppings. We stoped to enjoy the scenic vista overlooking Rt. 25, then wound our way back to the starting location.
