Sept 17th, 2011 - Building A Berm

Subsequent to building this, some ne-er do wells came in a couple of weeks later and destroyed the berm and opened up the fall line we were trying to close.

A Positive Trail Enhancement
The Joint TTC / FCNEMBA-sponsored Trail Work Session today focused on building a berm on the Red Trail to enhance the long downhill ride and more effectively close the washed-out gullied fall line that our July reroute replaced.

We were blessed with enough large rocks fairly nearby and a fantastic abundance of Grade A mineral soil available. The large rocks were moved with a rock crib (netting and poles) and made a super-solid foundation for the berm.

It took a lot of focused hard work but everyone's input was invaluable. Like a well-oiled machine, it's amazing when people get busy and share ideas and hard labor so effectively. Father and Son: John and Steve Horvath joined the FCNEMBA crew in the session and a lovely reporter, Liz Button, joined us as well, taking copious notes while being inundated with trail/biker talk. Despite Dave's bee attack, the weather was perfect and we finshed up as planned at noon.

Tightly packed and built to sustanable standards, this berm proved a blast to ride when Steve and I (rich) rode the park later. Thanks to all who helped put this on the map!
