November 12th, 2012 - North Bridge Assessment

A return on Monday (Veteran's Day) showed the bridge has gotten worse. The DEEP had come in during the week and put up the yellow tape. Please DON'T BOTHER entering from Whitney >> the bridge is impassable and the connector trail is still blocked (see below)

November 3rd, 2012 - Reviewing the Damage

I went in on Saturday to review the damage from Hurricane (aka Superstorm) Sandy. I heard the park was messed up pretty bad. Although there were a few bad spots, the trail gnomes had already been hard at work. Details below.

Coming in from Whitney, this monster is on the new connector trail from the rail trail to the North Bridge. Sadly, a braid had already been created. We hope to get this cleared soon because the braid is on a fall line and the erosion will be significant.

North Bridge Conector - Blowdown

Although it is still there (!) , the bridge has been impacted. The half-fallen tree has uprooted the anchored east side of the bridge. Please get off your bike for this stretch and exercise caution until repairs are made.

North Bridge Damage

With a handy folding saw, this small fallen tree was cleared.

Small Tree Cleared

As I was going south on the Blue--kinda half-raking the trail to ensure it stays discernable and narrow--I ran into Mike and his leaf blower. It turns out, he had cleared almost all the major trails in the park including on the ridge...
Holy smokes... Miracles can happen!

Leaf Blown Trail - Thanks Mike!!!

Once again other trail gnomes at work, this major blowdown had been cleared and is now ridable.
