While researching the old Saratoga & Schuylerville Railroad right of way, a visit to Victory Mills was of course a prerequisite. This abandoned mill has been the subject of many photo shoots and dominates the surrounding rural countryside. In the bright light of a sunny day, it certainly didn't have the foreboding air of a dark and dingy castle (as it is often portrayed) but simply a sad, disheveled edifice of the more productive days of yesteryear.
As my friend and I walked around back, we immediately were impressed by the beauty of the ice-shorn rapids and the powerful river around us. Although the strange tracks of a rabbit added to the mysterious aura of the place, these tracks also gave the place a sense of continued vitality and of happy hopeful days ahead…
